Vilnius City CI market is unique because of the advanatageous CI demand and supply concentration, namely, 70 % of all Lithuanian CI's are agglomerated in Vilnius and the central part of the City (the Old Town, Uzupis and the New City Centre) locates up to 80 % of all Vilnius CI's.
In 2008 there were 4096 CI companies operating in Vilnius which constituted 19,2 % of all the City companies (7 % in Lithuania) and 24 % of all the private businesses.
Vilnius CI’s generate up to 4 % of Lithuania’s GDP (turnover of 8 billion Litas) providing jobs for 50 thou. citizens which amounts to 13 % of all the employees in the capital of Lithuania.
Architectural companies are prevailing in Vilnius as well as the CI’s as a part of traditional industries. However the advertising sector gains the major revenues among Vilnius and Lithuanian CI’s with the annual turnover totaling to 2 billion Litas.
Presently there are 2 CI incubators (Arts Printing House for stage arts, Uzupis Art Incubator for visual arts) established by Vilnius City Municipality.
The current project “Vilnius – the European Capital of Culture 2009” is considered to be a successful platform for CI development and promotion.
The latest Vilnius project “Park of Architecture” is one of the most ambitious initiatives aiming redevelopment the old areas of the capital and applying them for CI’s.
