Design Night in Tallinn, September 16-25

On September 16-25, Tallinn is overtaken by the innovative design fans who are taking part of the European Innovation Festival IF... and Design Night both of which belong to the official programme of the European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011. Within the span of 2 years, 6 cities organize the Innovation Festival – Barcelona, Milan, Kortrijk, Lisbon, Vilnius and Tallinn. These festivals emphasize innovation and user-friendly design, social inclusion, mobility, environmental awareness and the influence of technology on everyday life. People and their needs are in the centre of attention.

Amsterdam city inviting to Creative Amsterdam - take your business elsewhere!

Mike Shullmeister, the project coordinator from Amsterdam city is commenting: “Dutch Creative Masters from all over the world will return home and share their insights on inspiration, cultures,  internalization and businesses.We will celebrate the talent and hard work of these successful go-getters with a varied programme: from open design sessions, business dates, export circles to talk shows and an award show.”

Apply for the SIX Spring School in Amsterdam, May 24-25

Welcome to the Social Innovation eXchange (SIX) International Spring School that will take place on 24 and 25 May, 2011 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Inspired by the recent events in Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, this Spring’s theme will be Co-creating Democracy: Citizen Passion in the 21st Century. Participants will focus on how citizen’s initiative and activism can be used effectively in 21st century democracies.  Together, participants will discuss themes such as citizen journalism, neighbourhood activism, e-governance and open data to construct a ‘co-creation’ manual with suggestions how different societal agents can co-create democracy.

Tallinn Music Week is welcoming on March 24-26

Tallinn Music Week is a showcase festival and a music industry networking event that started out in 2009. Having partnered up with the European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011 and the country’s very own brainchild, Skype, the event is a strong new initiative with the aim of integrating the Estonian music scene effectively into the European music industry circuit, thus providing a new platform for the country’s best talent to spread further from Estonian borders.

“Evidence Based Urban Policy & Creative District” – next Creative Metropoles meeting in Helsinki

The next Creative Metropoles event will be held in Helsinki on the 8th-10th of March 2011. The programme will consist of a seminar, an evening session and study visits. The theme of the main seminar is “Evidence Based Urban Policy & Creative District”. It will zoom in on different methods of gathering information on urban phenomena and the ways this information can be translated into city strategies and action plans supporting creative industries.

Welcome to Stockholm Design Week that will take place on 7 - 13 February, 2011. This is the week of the year that means Design with a capital D, expanding range of events and exhibits in the city – a week-long design spectacular centered around the Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair.

Both fairs are the hubs that generate business, complemented by an extensive citywide program of commercial, cultural and alternative events. All over the city showrooms, museums, galleries and furniture stores compete for public attention with special exhibits and events.

Apply for DMY International Design Festival Berlin, 01-05 June, 2011!

The DMY International Design Festival 2011 will anew take place at central former airport Berlin Tempelhof from June 1-5, 2011. Designers, companies and design schools can apply to exhibit within the next festival edition. The deadline for applications is Monday, February 14, 2011.

Young designers (up to three years after graduation / under 30 years old) and design schools are welcome to apply as exhibitors within the module New talents / Youngsters. The module is dedicated to the support of young talents and the presentation of pioneering, research-driven projects.

Tallinn – the European capital of culture in 2011

In 2011 the Estonian capital becomes the European Capital of Culture. Awarded by the European Commission for more than two decades, this title is more than just honorary – it gives a city and an entire nation the chance, over the space of a year, to show Europe and the world its creative side and to tell stories that its residents and everyone in the country, recognise and embrace as their own. In that sense, 2011 will see the biggest story in Estonian history being told in Tallinn.
