BRILLIANTLY BIRMINGHAM WELCOMES TALLIN DESIGNERS

As a long-established festival of contemporary jewellery design, Brilliantly Birmingham continues to support new and emerging designer-makers. This year marks the 11th annual festival and sees a collaboration with artists from the Tallinn Creative Incubator and Creative Metropoles project, all the way from Estonia.

The Tallinn Creative Incubator represents a variety of creative industries including jewellers, glass artists and graphic designers. Brilliantly Birmingham has created links with the organisation, following a trip to Estonia earlier this year, and some of the designer-makers came to the city to take part in the initial stages of this year’s festival.

The Estonian-based jewellery company GM Jewellery Design sent pieces from two of their top designer-makers, Gvido Valickis and Martin Rebane. Another designer-maker, Anne-Liis Leht from Annkris Glass also exhibited as part of the festival. The final of the four visiting designers was Doctor of Arts Kärt Summatavet.

The four Tallinn designer-makers showcased their work at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery for four days, giving visitors a taste of Estonian culture and jewellery design. The visit was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and Norwegian funding through INTERREG IVC Project.
